Jim Benkowski

About The Artist

Jim has always been involved in the arts in some manner, with over 20 years experience in blowing neon tube, and making lampworked glass beads, marbles, and small sculptures. He has created hundreds of unique pieces. In 2009 a prominent art gallery approached Jim requesting a couple of his pieces for an upcoming show called Vital Culture Art and Design. Jim's art was well received and the gallery asked if they could keep the pieces in the gallery, because of the over whelming interest in the pieces. The gallery asked Jim if he could start making more pieces to put for sale in the gallery.

Pictured above is a small collection of Jim's work, which are available for purchase at Gallery 13 in downtown Minneapolis. Or you can commission Jim to make a piece in the colors that fit your decor. One of Jim's most popular pieces has been his Neon Toasters.

Jim's philosophy on his art is very simple. "Don't think, just enjoy" You don't need to think a lot to understand his art. Jim says " I don't want people to have to think and figure out what I'm trying to say, or look for some hidden meaning in my art. It's simple, what you see is exactly what it is. For example an old toaster with neon toast, that's it! Nothing more. If you look at it and say THAT'S COOL! then I have succeeded."

His favorite pieces are the ones that use some kind of recycled item along with some neon, like the toasters. "I love the concept of mixing old with new and coming up with that COOL factor."

Jim has been asked to particapate in shows in both Miami and New York. He has also done work for the Walker Art Museum in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
